Flow: 316
Water temp: 58-63
When you’re hot you’re hot, when you’re not you’re not. While Jerry Reed, the Dallas Cowboys and my dog (Diamond) may be accustomed to getting their tail whipped I’m not. Fishing the mornings out of my trout bum paradise just above the river big trout were plentiful. Come Saturday things got tougher. I had the pleasure guiding a trio of fantastic folks and showcase the longest tributary of the Mississippi River. I gave a little more attention to Elizabeth as it was her first time with a fly rod. She had the hit from a great brown followed by a run that almost put her into the backing. Sunday’s numbers were a good handful of small rainbows and browns. Consistency in the fishing and flows are varying but any day on the water is a treat. The water is still off color so it’s a good time to pack the ten to twelve foot rods for a little Czech Nymphing.
Even in the off color water chronomid patterns are working below an attractor.

Ben

October 12, 2014
Flow: 385
Water Temp: 62
We’ve had a busy week with great guests and constantly changing river. On top of it all we made a jaunt down to Gunnison to explore Tomichi Creek (we’ll be helping out with the Ride With Autism next summer). Tomichi was a fun break fishing clear small streams for little browns and it’s a great reminder of how fortunate we are living minutes, or seconds in my case from quality trout, food and friends. I appreciate all the waves as we hang out, fish and BBQ.
Conditions have been up and down on the river as much as the flow. Clarity matches the current and the trout are moving with it. SJW, buggers, Johnny flash and hare’s ears produced the bigger trout. 4G mobile coverage throughout the tailwater allows for easy access to check the flows, and it’s recommended to do so. Cover lots of water and don’t skip the submerged clusters scattered about. Conditions will continue to improve as fall approaches. Thanks for the great days.
Tight lines,
Ben
